Bear Books
I have a list of books that deal with bears that I think everyone will enjoy.
Grizzly Years- In Search of the American Wilderness- Doug Peacock ~ Before I go any further I must say that this book is one of the, if not the best book I have ever come across on grizzlies. The author is an excellent writer and this is one of those rare finds that once you start reading, you just can't put it down. I've read this one more than once. He also has another excellent book: The Essential Grizzly- The Mingled Fates of Men and Bears
Bear Attacks: Their Causes and Avoidances- Stephen Herrero
Among the Bears: Raising Orphan Cubs in the Wild- Benjamin Kilham ~ Another excellent book, this one dealing with black bears. A must read.
Grizzly Bears- An Illustrated Field Guide- John A. Murray
The Lost Grizzlies- Rick Bass
Among Grizzlies- Living With Wild Bears in Alaska- Timothy Treadwell & Jewell Palovak ~ I'm sure some of you are familiar with the name of Treadwell. This guy ended up on the business end of a grizzly in the Alaskan wilderness. I realize that he did what he did in order to help these bears, but I feel he crossed the line ending up with not only the loss of his life, but the life of his girlfriend's when they were eaten alive by a grizzly. Wild animals are wild animals......period. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to watch the 2005 documentary film by Werner Herzog entitled "Grizzly Man".
Track of the Grizzly- Frank C. Craighead Jr.
Bear-ology: Fascinating Bear Facts, Tales & Trivia - Sylvia Dolson & Evelyn Kirklady
Mark of the Grizzly: True Stories of Recent Bear Attacks and the Hard Lessons Learned- Scott McMillion
Where the Grizzly Walks: The Future of the Great Bear- Bill Schneider
Black Bears: A Natural History- Dave Taylor
Enjoy..........

I would add "Ghost Grizzlies" by David Petersen. It explores whether or not grizzlies still roam the San Juans of Colorado.
Thanks Mike!
